Grooming Services

On this page we will provide you with information about the Grooming Services offered at the Paw Prints Studio, however, if this is the first time you are having your dog professionally groomed, please take time to read through our Frequently Asked Questions page. Not only will it provide you with some very useful information regarding the wellbeing of your dog, it will also offer peace of mind regarding the care that will be taken when you use Paw Prints Grooming Studio.

Grooming Services Overview

We think all dogs are heroes and deserve the very best. They bring us so much joy and happiness and all they really want in return is love (and food). However, they are not particularly good at running their own baths. Added to that, they tend to love the great outdoors and all the adventures they can find in it.

So, whether your hero loves the water in a stream, the mud in the woods or running through the fallen leaves in the local park, you can guarantee that if there is a chance to get filthy, they'll grab it with four paws and enjoy every dirty minute of it.

This is where Paw Prints can help. Dog grooming most commonly entails brushing and bathing your dog to make their coat look shiny and smell fresh, however, their are other benefits to regular grooming sessions. The services we at Paw Prints provide can also help with:

  • The removal of built up dirt and hair where parasites, mites and bacteria can thrive, thus reducing the risk of skin infections
  • Clearing/preventing flea and tick infestations
  • Helping your dog to regulate his or her body temperature
  • Regular nail trims to prevent painful ingrown or overgrown nails that can make walking painful and difficult.

Every dog has its own personality and we want them all to be happy and healthy. We understand that in order to provide the best experience possible, we need to get to know each dog so that's exactly where we begin. We start with making each dog comfortable and relaxed so he or she will be confident in our care. Paw Prints provide an environment that is calm and quiet with only one dog in the studio at any given time. Our dog grooming cuts and styles begin with our knowledge of the breeds. The techniques and styles may be customised to the breed standard, determined by your own personal preference or by the coat condition, health, temperament or behaviour of your dog.

Puppy Familiarisation

Paw Prints offer a free puppy familiarisation service in order to get your puppy used to the sounds, smells and sights of the grooming studio. We believe that regular grooming is important for dogs of all ages and when it comes to puppies, it is beneficial for them to introduced to grooming as soon as possible. We would ask that puppies have had all their jabs and are at least 12 weeks old and no older than 16 weeks for this service.

The session itself will include the following:

  • A chance to look around and explore the studio, after which he or she will be lifted and placed on the grooming table. The table can be raised up and down and we will let your puppy experience this fun movement!
  • Brushes and other equipment will be introduced to your puppy whilst on the table so that they can have a smell and a good look at them.
  • Once they are happy with the equipment we will give them a light grooming so that they can get used to the feeling!
  • We will also start picking up their paws and having a close look at them so that they will be happy for someone to do this in the future and if needed, we can give the nails a free clip, this will get them used to the sensation and help minimise your risk of puppy scratches when you play!

Why we use natural products

After years of bathing and witnessing many skin conditions on different dog breeds, we at Paw Prints believe that using all natural products full of beneficial ingredients for the skin and coat makes a huge difference.

Just like human hair and skin, a dog's skin and coat responds better when natural products are used. Natural products promote a healthy, hydrated skin and coat. The damage that cheap, chemically made shampoos can cause can include dry, itchy, scaly skin with poor hair quality, lacking moisture and shine.

We should also remember that dogs are not able to shampoo themselves!

Any product that is used on our pets also comes into contact with our skin. Many groomers that use inferior products suffer from red, sore, cracked hands and mild to moderate dermatitis.

That is why we use completely natural products, their use guarantees protection for dogs, their owners and their groomers too!

De-matting policy

We at Paw Prints Grooming Studio believe wholeheartedly in humane grooming and we strictly abide by the Animal Welfare Act. We will only de-mat or consider shaving (using our specialist equipment) if we believe the dog will feel no pain.

It is the owners duty of care towards their pet to maintain the coat between professional grooming sessions. If owners fail to attend to their pets coat then in the interest of the animal we will shave off matted areas to prevent unnecessary suffering. We will be more than happy to show you how to look after your pet's coat at home.

It is assumed that you will bring your dog into the studio in a 'normal' condition. That is, that you regularly groom your dog at home (right down to the skin) in between appointments and that you will present your dog to the studio in a dry and un-matted state. Any condition other than 'normal' will probably take us longer to deal with and therefore incur additional charges.

If and when a dog is presented at the studio in a severely matted condition, it is our policy to shave the whole coat using electric clippers with a close blade. To de-mat would cause the animal tremendous stress and discomfort and often leaves a very thin and damaged coat. Shaving the coat is kinder to the dog. Many dogs are traumatised by unnecessary hours of de-matting, putting them off grooming for life. We consider shaving an act of kindness.

Due to the lengthy and tedious nature of de-matting, additional time will be charged.
